In 2024, I was attuned into Reiki healing energy and became a certified Level One Reiki practitioner. In this blog post, I share how I first encountered this beautiful energy and why I chose to walk this path.

How I Found Reiki

It was spring 2024, and I was preparing for summer with a few beauty touch-ups. One of these was a Botox treatment. This was my third time receiving Botox.

The first time, I experienced a strong migraine that started almost immediately after the injection and lasted for several weeks. The second time, I had no side effects, so I assumed my body had simply reacted to a new substance the first time.

About a year later, I went in for my third treatment - and once again, the intense migraine began shortly after. Unlike fillers, Botox cannot be dissolved. Once it is in the body, it must wear off naturally. While certain exercises can help restore muscle movement sooner, the toxin itself remains in the system until it fully metabolizes.

After several days of pain, I knew I wanted to find relief in a natural way. I prefer natural healing over medication, so I searched online for a healing practitioner near me. That is when I found a Reiki practitioner with many five-star reviews. Despite feeling skeptical and hesitant, I decided to book an appointment.

Even upon arrival, my skepticism was still present. Also earlier that day, I had eaten lunch, and my stomach felt tight and uncomfortable.

The Treatment

The practitioner was calm, kind, and grounded. He asked about my concerns and explained the process clearly. He told me I would lie down, remain open to receiving the energy, and that he would place his hands on specific points of my body. The session would end with a short massage. Everything would be done through clothing, so I wore something comfortable and flexible.

When the treatment began, he placed his hands on my head. At that moment, I became very aware of my skeptical thoughts. My mind was busy questioning why I had come and whether this could possibly work.

After a few minutes, something changed.

A wave of calm and ease washed through me. My mind quieted. I felt peaceful and deeply relaxed. I don’t remember how much time passed, but suddenly I noticed something remarkable, the migraine was gone. The pain had completely disappeared, along with the negative mental chatter.

As the session continued, he treated my abdominal area and other points on my body. When it was time to turn over, I realized the tightness in my stomach had also fully released.

After the Session

At the end of the treatment, I was honestly stunned. I told myself it must be a placebo effect, or simply deep relaxation. Since my place was close, I decided to walk home.

During that walk, I felt a quiet inner joy growing inside me. I received a message from a friend, and I noticed how open and elevated I felt. Everything around me felt more colorful, warm, and soft, as if my vibration had shifted.

I expected this feeling to fade, but it didn’t.

The next morning I woke up feeling fresh and happy. When I had the migraine, my thoughts were heavier and more negative, and I didn’t feel at home in my city - I just wanted to leave.

That feeling was gone. I felt grounded and at home again.

Choosing This Path

After a few days of realizing how much positive impact this experience had on me, I applied for a Reiki practitioner course. The dates were very close, and I felt excited and curious to step onto this new path.

A Short History of Jikiden Reiki

During the three-day course, I learned the history of Jikiden Reiki.

Jikiden Reiki means “directly transmitted Reiki.” It is a traditional Japanese form of Reiki that stays very close to the original teachings of Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. The lineage was preserved through Chujiro Hayashi and later passed on by Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who learned Reiki directly in Japan before Reiki was adapted for the Western world.

Jikiden Reiki is simple, pure, and grounded. It does not add modern spiritual concepts or visualizations. The focus is on hands-on healing, presence, and listening to the body.

Integration Into My Life

During the course, I received the energetic opening and practiced treatments with others. Since then, I do not offer Reiki publicly. I am highly sensitive to energy, and I am very selective about who I share my space with.

I use this practice intuitively with close friends, partners, and family when it feels aligned. Reiki has become a quiet, supportive presence in my life - one that I deeply respect and honor.
